I’m very disappointed with my recent experience at McCurdy lanes. We specifically asked for gluten-free meals and were assured multiple times by the staff that the dish (gluten free pizza) would be safe.
Unfortunately, it became clear after eating that the food was not truly gluten free, which caused serious health issues for myself. As it turns out, the server did not input the gluten free option on the ticket, and I was thus served gluten.
When this was noticed, multiple members of our party flagged down the waitress, who continued to assure us the food was gluten free despite our requests to go check. Once the waitress did agree to go check she stopped and took several drink orders from other guests first, yet again showing little to no urgency for an emergency situation.
After checking with the kitchen, the waitress returned to advise of the mistake and that the food was not gluten free.
Mistakes happen, but what’s most upsetting is the lack of care in handling something as important as food allergies. When customers trust a restaurant with a dietary restriction, they rely on that kitchen to handle it safely.
Celiac disease is not something that can be taken lightly, and the result of being glutened can be catastrophic. Had I not noticed immediately this could have been substantially worse health wise then it was.
For anyone with gluten intolerance or celiac disease, I’d advise being extremely cautious here until they improve their allergy training and food-handling practices.
We just hosted our annual staff Christmas party here for a group of 60, and it was a total hit! The food served laneside was great, and all the equipment was in top-notch repair. It’s such an excellent venue for large groups—we’re repeat customers and will definitely be back next year. Highly recommend!
