Knox in the early evening is quieter than people expect — the afternoon crowd has cleared and the light through the pines is something else. The Modest Butcher on the west side is the right kind of low-key after a trail: unpretentious, local, and genuinely good. Ending back at Kalamoir when it's dark and the city is lit across the water is a completely different version of the same place.
