Park at the lower lot and walk up — it adds a few minutes but saves your legs for the steeper switchbacks near the top. The view from the Apex lookout is west-facing over the lake and the bridge; stand there long enough to actually look at it before heading back down. The descent is quick and your body will feel the difference by the time you hit the parking lot.
